EDF Energy has reached an agreement with China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN) for a nuclear power plant at Hinkley Point, Somerset, which could create 25,000 jobs, the BBC reports.

The news was confirmed in a press conference with Prime Minister David Cameron and Chinese President Xi Jinping yesterday.

State-owned CGN will reportedly pay £6bn for one third of the Hinkley plant, which is expected to begin generating power by 2025.

The agreement also set up a wider UK partnership to develop new nuclear power stations at Sizewell and Bradwell.
