How far would you go to help your child get a job? Would you go as far as putting up €5k (£3.7k)? That is just how far one Spanish pensioner has gone.

The Guardian reports the anonymous pensioner, a retired lawyer, placed an ad in his local paper offering €5k to anyone who would give his unemployed 39-year-old son a job.

According to the ad, the son is “qualified, responsible, hardworking and has a good professional record”.

The man had reportedly had a series of temporary contracts but they finished a year ago.

The pensioner, who had not consulted his son before placing the ad, said 20 firms had so far called asking for his son’s CV.

According to the paper, Spanish unemployment is about 23%, although that is expected to increase to take into account the more than 333,000 people whose temporary contracts, mainly in the tourism and service industries, ended when the summer season finished.
