French environment minister Ségolène Royale announced the recruitment of 10 hunters to protect livestock from the growing menace of wolf attacks.
The formation of the so-called ‘anti-wolf brigade’ comes after a doubling of wolf attacks in the last five years, with about 8,500 sheep killed in the last 12 months.
Attacks have been reported in 27 départements (administrative divisions in France).
