Five hundred workers in Finland who were made redundant and two suppliers will receive EU aid worth €1.36m (£1m) to help find new jobs for the workers. 

Mobile chipset developer Broadcom closed down all its activities in Finland when its manufacturing was relocated to Asia and the US earlier this year. The company made 568 workers redundant across Finland.

Following approval by the Finnish parliament yesterday, the European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) will finance coaching for 500 of the redundant workers, grants to start their own enterprises and hiring incentives. The overall cost of the operations, co-financed by Finland, is €2.2m.
