International taxi cab firm Uber has released an online driver-recruiting game.

According to US business magazine Forbes, ‘UberDRIVE’ is designed to both give prospective Uber employees a taste of what it’s like to be one of their drivers, and allow existing Uber drivers to perfect their navigational skills.

The aim of the game is, unsurprisingly, to help clients get from point A to point B, not only as fast as possible but as safely as possible too. Doing so successfully earns you a high score. Higher scores allow consistent players to unlock new cars and maps to drive around.

An idiosyncratic recruitment ploy, the game reveals links to sign up to Uber’s screening process as you play it, and should give players a working knowledge of their city’s most efficient routes.

Initially only available with content for San Francisco, it can be downloaded in the USA Apple iTunes store.
