The drone industry could create 150,000 jobs across Europe by 2050, according to the House of Lords EU internal market, infrastructure and employment sub-committee.

The committee has been scrutinising the European Commission’s proposals for regulating the operation of drones and heard evidence that the industry had “huge potential for growth and jobs”.

According to a committee report published this morning [5 March], businesses across Europe are already using small drones for photography, filming and surveying, but they could also be used to carry out dull, dirty or dangerous jobs, such as cargo shipping and search & rescue.

The report noted that for the jobs potential to be realised, the safety of drone operations would have to be demonstrated to gain public approval.
