Persimmon Homes is to open a new school in London to train and recruit ex-military personnel to plug skills gaps.
Back in November, the house-builder announced it had launched its first training school in Darlington where it is working with training provider Nordic Focus Training to retrain people in site-based skills such as bricklaying.
In a statement the group said it planned to bring on board 500 new recruits in 2015 under the scheme and if growth continued, that would be repeated the year after.
According to a Persimmon spokesperson, the first school has proven to be so successful that the group is now planning to launch a new school in London.
“The combat construction initiative is going great guns,” she said. “It is so successful that in March we’re opening a new training school in London.”
And despite purchasing managers in the construction sector indicating a slower rate of employment growth in January, Persimmon has seen no evidence of this. “In all other areas of the business, it’s full steam ahead with vacancies nationwide,” the spokesperson added.
