Derby’s University Technical College (UTC) is the latest UTC to join a Royal Navy scheme to develop engineering and technical skills in its students.

The scheme has the long-term aim of helping address the nationwide shortage of engineers.

Other members of the scheme include UTCs in Plymouth, Bristol, South Wiltshire UTC (in Salisbury), and Energy Coast UTC (in Workington, Cumbria).

Students will work on projects designed by Royal Navy engineers, visit naval facilities and gain careers advice.

Potential UTCs are selected because of their strong links with local industry or because they are close to naval bases and establishments.
