The Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) has closed down an immigration consultancy firm that was illegally recruiting workers for horticulture and agriculture jobs in New Zealand.
A statement from the agency said POEA administrator Hans Cacdac ordered the closure of First World Immigration “to prevent further exploitation of innocent applicants for overseas employment”.
According to the statement, the company was allegedly recruiting vineyard workers, dairy farm workers and fruit pickers for New Zealand without a licence from the POEA.
The POEA Anti-Illegal Recruitment Branch and police padlocked the agency’s office after an admission it was engaged in illegal recruitment activities.
