Automotive firm Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled a scheme to help wounded, injured and sick ex-military servicemen and women to find a long-term second career.
Thu, 30 Oct 2014Automotive firm Jaguar Land Rover wants to be an employer of choice for former military personnel and has unveiled a scheme to help wounded, injured and sick ex-military servicemen and women to find a long-term second career.
The initiative, developed in conjunction with Mission Motorsport – the Armed Forces' Motorsport Charity – and the MoD's Recovery Career Services, offers placements to support a return to work following injury or illness while in service. It formalises a successful JLR and Mission Motorsport pilot scheme launched in 2013, which led to full-time employment for several participants.
The move follows the car-maker’s support of September’s international Invictus Games, set up to use sport to inspire recovery, support rehabilitation and generate a wider understanding and respect for those who serve their country.
The initiative is one of several programmes that JLR has launched as part of its commitment to enhancing employment opportunities for former service personnel and creating a lasting legacy for the Invictus Games. JLR’s wider commitment to supporting the employment of former Armed Forces personnel includes a pledge by the company to achieve 50% year-on-year improvement to hiring numbers.
JLR said it plans to be an employer of choice for military personnel who are leaving or have left the services. In the past year, it has hired more than 100 ex-service personnel and is aiming to recruit a further 150.
