More than 100 jobs will be created in Melbourne’s northern suburbs by a project funded by the Victoria state and Australian governments, in partnership with Ford Australia.

A $3m (£1.7m) grant is being made to Moreland-based chocolate manufacturer Koko Black under the Melbourne North Innovation and Investment Fund.

The grant was announced by Australian industry minister Ian Macfarlane; Victoria state premier Denis Napthine; state manufacturing minister David Hodgett; and Ford Australia president and chief executive officer Bob Graziano.

The grant will allow Koko Black to undertake a $10.9m project, which will establish the company’s new Asia-Pacific headquarters in northern Melbourne.

Labelled ‘The Alchemy Hall Project’, Koko Black will develop a manufacturing centre of excellence, a research and development facility to support product innovation, and an interactive visitor experience centre and salon.
