Pharmaceutical giant GSK is to create at least 500 jobs in Africa as a result of up to £130m of invesments in the continent planned over the next five years.

In a statement, the company says: “GSK will look to partner with a number of African countries to develop domestic manufacturing capacity and capability. This will see GSK invest up to £100m to expand its existing manufacturing capability in Nigeria and Kenya and build up to five new factories in Africa.”
GSK says it is considering possible locations in other countries, including Rwanda and Ghana.
The factories will create a network of localised industry and local employment for a highly skilled workforce drawn from surrounding communities.
GSK’s plans to invest in Africa were set out by GSK chief executive officer, Sir Andrew Witty, who was speaking today at the 5th EU-Africa Business Forum in Brussels.
