Fri, 3 Jan 2014The Ministry of Defence has apologised for any offence caused by the placement of a recruitment poster near to the scene of the infamous Bloody Sunday massacre, the Belfast Telegraph reports.
The Royal Air Force is currently recruiting for reservists across the region having re-established a Country Antrim base.
Its poster in Derry/Londonderry was taken down yesterday (2 January), with the Telegraph saying this was believed to have been done by locals.
The 30 January 1972 massacre saw 13 innocent protestors killed by British soldiers. Alongside the loss of life, UK government reaction has been the cause of anger after an initial report exonerated the army, before a fresh review granted in 1998 took 12 years to lay responsibility on the army.
Kate Nash, the sister of one of the dead men, told the paper: “I was incensed, we are anti-war and to have that looking at us outside our door was very hurtful.”
A statement from the MoD said: "The MoD apologises for any offence that may have been caused as a result of the placement of this advert; this was certainly not our intention.”
