Survey highlights difficulties for young jobseekers

A fifth of people in the UK believe that they will never be able to afford to retire, according to research by banking giant HSBC.
Thu, 19 Sep 2013A fifth of people in the UK believe that they will never be able to afford to retire, according to research by banking giant HSBC.

The results reveal that 19% of people surveyed said they would have to go on working because of concerns regarding their finances.

The figures will intensify concerns that young people will be crowded out of the jobs market by older workers. The most recent unemployment figures for the UK showed that while unemployment as a whole fell, the number of young people aged 18-24 rose slightly to almost a million.

Earlier this week, Prime Minister David Cameron and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg announced a review of the government's strategy to reduce youth unemployment.
