Thu, 5 Sep 2013Sunderland Council has granted car maker Nissan permission to start construction on a project that will bring £250m investment and 1,000 jobs to the UK.
The plan, announced by the car maker in December last year, includes 280 at the Sunderland plant, with the rest coming throughout the country in the company’s supply chain.
A spokesperson tells recruiter.co.uk that with permission now granted, building will start “very shortly” and production will begin in 2015.
It would appear the firm was relatively confident of permission being granted, having started hiring for engineers for the new division in May.
Nissan’s UK workforce passed 6,000 for the first time last year, and as reported by recruiter.co.uk last month, subsequent hiring will be spearheaded by a rather charming recruitment campaign.
