Greenlight’s analysis of 4.9m job searches undertaken via search engine Google UK in July shows 1.6m of this were sector-specific queries.

The phrase ‘civil service jobs’ was the most frequent among these, found in 10% of those searches, followed by 5% using the phrase ‘charity jobs’.

Others industries in which job opportunities were predominantly sought-after included recruitment, retail, leisure and security.

Geographically speaking, London and Glasgow were the most common areas among the 1.5m job searches including specific UK locations, while 1.5% were searches for ‘jobs abroad’.

Greenlight’s 12-month view of the online recruitment market shows web search volumes for jobs this year were at their lowest in February (3.1m searches), peaked in March (6.2m), declined sharply in April (5.1m), picked up marginally in May (5.2m), and fell again more marginally through June and July.
