Update Service to make staff checks ‘speedier and more time effective’

The government’s background checking body the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is launching a new product, the Update Service, under which individuals can apply for a single vetting certificate that is valid for a year.
Thu, 23 May 2013The government’s background checking body the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) is launching a new product, the Update Service, under which individuals can apply for a single vetting certificate that is valid for a year.

The £13 subscription to the Update Service allows individuals to provide an up-to-date DBS certificate whenever they apply to a new role requiring clearance, rather than waiting for a new check to be carried out.

The spokesperson says the new service will make for a “more time effective”, cheaper and “much speedier recruitment process”, telling Recruiter it is “a win-win” for both employer or recruiter, and the jobseeker.

The DBS has also today announced a change to its application forms, requiring more specific information in the ‘Position Applied For’ field.

A spokesperson for the DBS tells Recruiter the Update Service will be relevant principally to individuals working with vulnerable adults and children, for example in care homes, as nurses or in fostering.

The DBS was formed out of the merger of CRB and Independent Safeguarding Authority in December of last year.
