Mon, 13 May 2013Small firms could receive hundred of pounds when their employees in the Territorial Army (TA) are called up, according to the defence secretary.

As part of the government’s efforts to encourage businesses to take on more reservists as the TA expands by 50% to a trained strength of 30,00 by 2018, Philip Hammond indicated that more cash would be made available.

He told BBC’s Sunday Politics show that he was “looking at the equation around financial services…  It means cash when their employees get called out on reserve services. Now that does matter to small employers”.

Firms currently receive compensation for the cost of hiring someone to replace a reservist going away on operations.
