‘Passion’ may be a frequent requirement of would-be new recruits, but one unusual story surfacing this week highlights where this may not be a positive thing.

The story of nine-year-old Lane Fountain, whose rare Williams Syndrome means he is extremely sociable and highly sensitive to the needs of others, has hoovered up a good few column inches this week. The syndrome is linked to him being obsessed with vacuum cleaners and constantly offering to clean the house.

Fountain has a collection over 17 vacuum cleaners and says: “I love cleaning and I do it every day. I love most hoovers and carpets – especially Henry, he’s my favourite.”

Putting aside the fact that at nine years old you might get in trouble offering him a job in the cleaning industry, it seems he may not prove the ideal candidate. Father Mark explains: “The funny thing is, he’s not actually much good at hoovering.”
