Hospitality and catering specialist Blue Arrow is using the government-backed Skills Funding Agency (SFA) to provide training to its temporary workers at its newly-launched office in London’s Ludgate Hill.

At the branch’s official launch last week, London regional director Cheryl Moloney told Recruiter that Blue Arrow has been working with international training provider Sarina Russo for the past two months through an SFA programme.

There are currently 24 flexible employees training for a BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Hospitality, with the aim of a further 12 Blue Arrow temps registering for training every month, according to Moloney.

“The Diplomas will be specific to our clients’ needs and will include a Diploma in barista work, a Diploma in silver service and a Diploma in wine service,” she adds.

The training is carried out by skills assessors from Sarina Russo, funded as part of an SFA programme, whereby the employer can also claim money back from the government agency once the trainee has been in employment for a certain number of weeks.

The Ludgate Hill branch has a specifically designed training suite, Moloney says, explaining that “as a company we feel that off-job training plays a major role in our applicant attraction and retention programme”, and therefore the training rooms in the new office “was essential”.

The SFA is a partner organisation of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). Click for more on its efforts to fund and promote adult further education and skills training in England.
