The Trade Unions Congress, the umbrella organisation for UK unions, is today (Friday, 1 March) telling workers across the UK to stop the estimated £30bn of unpaid overtime done across the country annually on Work Your Proper Hours Day.

The organisation says that 5m UK workers regularly do unpaid overtime, “giving their employers £29.2bn of free work in 2011 alone”.

On the campaign's website, the TUC suggests workers “take some time to reflect on how well (or badly) you’re balancing your life”, details the harm done to workers' health by unpaid overtime, and includes a calculator for individuals to work out the value of this time.
