If so, refer the friend to the Royal Air Force (RAF). Sadly, the ‘blue’ service is “struggling with” a talent shortfall of musicians skilled in that particular brass instrument for its musical groups, according to Ian Tolfts, Group Captain Recruiting for the RAF (left).

On a more serious note, Tolfts, speaking last week at Recruiter's Smart Resourcing 2013 conference, sponsored by Eploy, predicted that the next few years will find the RAF increasingly taking talent attraction and acquisition efforts online.

“In five years’ time, I personally think we’ll be off the High Street,” Tolfts said in response to an audience question.

However, he noted the fact that since RAF recruiters all are serving members of the service – himself included – prospective candidates like to have face-to-face chats with them because they have actually experienced the lifestyle and life-and-death challenges on offer.
