Jobs Watch: Tesco creates nearly 2,000 roles at distribution centres

Of these, 1,150 jobs come at a new distribution centre in Reading due to open at the end of May. Of the jobs being created, 85 are reserved for the long-term unemployed in a deal between Tesco, the local council and the government.

The company is also opening a new distribution centre in Dagenham that is due to launch in June, with the creation of 750 jobs.

Some of the new jobs could be filled by Tesco staff at centres in Weybridge and Chesterfield, which are closing.

A Tesco spokesperson says: “Colleagues who are affected will be offered jobs at other Tesco sites, including at the two new distribution sites that we will be opening in Reading and Dagenham.”
