Mon, 11 Feb 2013Recruitment industry veteran Bernard Marks died last week in Sydney at the age of 89.

Marks led the Alfred Marks Bureau, founded by his father as a London catering staffing firm, for three and a half decades, transforming it into a market leader. The bureau was sold in 1977 to international staffing giant Adia, latterly known as Adecco.

In tribute, Sir Alec Reed, founder of the Reed recruitment brands, tells Recruiter: “Bernard Marks was a very close friend of mine for over 40 years. The fact that we were competitors bought us closer together.

“Everybody who met Bernard could not fail to be impressed by his enormous charm, integrity and good humour. I will miss him enormously.”

Marks was also mentioned in the 1980 song ‘Temporary Secretary’ by former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney.
