Wed, 20 Feb 2013A new apprenticeship scheme for the recruitment industry is to be launched on 1 March by a partnership comprising training provider Expedient Training Consultancy, industry body the Institute of Recruiters (IOR) and qualifications awarding body Skillsfirst Awards.

The new dedicated apprenticeship will ensure learners focus on the industry-specific skills and knowledge right for recruitment. Anyone can start the qualification from 1 March, with funding to be made available “most likely by the start of April”, a Skillsfirst spokersperson tells Recruiter.

This apprenticeship is separate to another recruitment industry apprenticeship programme being led by skills and training charity Skills CFA – which had told Recruiter in November 2012 it was looking to launch the qualification in February 2013, with the company now telling Recruiter this is still the plan.

As previously reported in a Recruiter feature (‘The apprentice – you’re hired’) in August 2011, this is not the first time apprentices have been taken on by recruitment organisations. Indeed, training firm Expedient Training Consultancy’s recruitment apprenticeship scheme, which opened for the first time to applicants in summer 2011, included the entry level Certificate in Recruitment Practice delivered by the Recruitment & Employment Confederation (REC).

Learners undertaking the apprenticeship through Expedient will have access to the IOR learning and training materials, as well as free full membership of the IOR.

The three partnering organisations will be delivering a seminar on the new apprenticeship on the second day (Wednesday 27 February) of the Recruitment Agency Expo, at London Olympia.
