The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will not lift a ban imposed on public sector recruitment despite a government-backed plea, reports local news site Dawn.com.
The bar was put in place by the ECP last month because it believed “mass recruitment at this point of time… will substantially influence the results of elections”, ahead of a March general election.
Some constitutional bodies including the Supreme Court, High Courts, parliament and Federal Ombudsman, have been exempted, although various other bodies including universities and medical colleges have had their application for exemption turned down.
Dawn.com notes that posts advertised before 31 August last year can be filled.
