The unemployment rate in Australia fell to 5.2% in November, as the number of people in the labour force rose by 13,900 to 11.55m.

This rise was at the upper-end of expectations, although it did see full-time employment drop by 4,200, while part-time working offset this as numbers rose by 18,100. For the previous four months, the number of full-time workers increased by an overall total of 67,100.Earlier this year, joblessness had briefly sat below 5%.

- Yesterday also saw the launch of several measures to boost “skilled and well-paid jobs” in Australia’s manufacturing industry, with A$236m (£154m) funding awarded to food research – further monies from the Industrial Transformation Research Program are set to be allocated in due course.
