Sainsbury's is to create 10,000 new jobs in its convenience business over the next three years. 

A company spokesperson tells Recruiter that the new jobs will be based all over the UK as it expands its network of convenience stores.

Sainsbury's plans to open one to two stores a week and opened 49 in the first half of the year. Yesterday it opened its 500th convenience store in Southsea in Essex, creating 20 jobs. The jobs will range from managerial and team leader roles to customer service positions. 

The recruitment will take place in stages with around 3,300 people due to recruited each year over the next three years, says the spokesperson.

Simon Twigger, Sainsbury’s director of convenience, says: “We make sure we recruit locally. It's one of the best possible starts to a career in retail and many of our convenience store managers have worked their way up into the role.”

Sainsbury’s opened a new main store in Kings Lynn yesterday, creating 400 new jobs.
