Auto giant General Motors (GM) expects to hire up to 2,000 high-tech employees over the next few years to support a new approach for its IT services, according to a company press release.

Today’s announcement of a new Warren, Michigan centre sees around 1,500 job roles created. The Warren base is the second of four planned innovation centres across the US, with the first to take on 500 IT staff in Austin, Texas, as announced last month.

GM is looking to in-source IT processes, with chief information officer Randy Mott saying the company is “seeking the next generation of game-changers to help us usher in a new age of automotive innovation at GM”.

The company will be visiting US college campuses this autumn and advertising for roles, which include software development, project management, database management and business analysis via its careers site.
