International telecommunications recruiter First Point Group has opened for business in the city of Shenzhen, Southern China.

Chief executive Alistair Rynish tells Recruiter that having taken on the premises in July, the “long process to open up in China” is now complete, leaving it ready for trading.

He also tells Recruiter that the company had previously worked in China, in particular from the Hong Kong office it opened three years ago. “This [Hong Kong office] has given us an edge over some of competitors who are still trying to manage the business from London,” Rynish adds.

Indeed, he says, First Point had worked in pretty much every country in the globe aside from North Korea and, for the moment at least, Syria.

“It is tough times; opening and managing overseas offices is not easy, but in the long run in our business you need to have an international footprint to survive. Our clients expect it.”

The new office is led by manager Lindsey Cai. She is a Chinese national who had previously been based in First Point’s London office for a number of years.

The company also has offices in London, Madrid, Dubai, the US and Mexico.
