Construction recruiter Contract Scotland made a profit of £761k after tax in the 18 months ended 31 December 2011, according to its accounts. Turnover was £15.1m.

Due to a change in the firm’s year-end, no direct comparison can be made between this 18-month period and the previous 12-month accounting period ending 30 June 2010, during which Contract Scotland recorded turnover of £8.43m and profits after tax of £293k.

Contract Scotland director, Emma Marriott, tells Recruiter the reason for changing the company’s year-end tax date was to more effectively manage the company’s “relatively high corporation tax liability, which can have an impact on future expansion plans”.

She continues: “Essentially we were keen to move our corporation tax liability from a time of year – March to September – when our temporary numbers are increasing and thus have large figures to pay out in March the following year to a time when temporary numbers are decreasing in September.”

The average number of employees rose from 56 in the year to 30 June 2010 to 66.
