Businesses to pay a heavy price for English success in the World Cup, according to a new survey
British businesses are set to lose £100m for every day England stays in the World Cup, a study from Active Heath Partners has estimated.
It says that for every game England plays in the first round of the World Cup, employee absence will increase by 20%, and will increase to 40% if England progress through the rounds. The statistics were gained by using absenteeism data captured during previous major sporting events.
The company advises employers to ensure that return to work interviews take place and to be flexible by positioning television screens in the workplace.
