Women are happiest with part-time jobs that enable them to combine work and family life, according to the British Household Panel Survey.

The research, based on interviews with 3,800 couples over an eight-year period, found that all working women reported greater life satisfaction than housewives with no paid job. The results were the same for both mothers and childless women.

It found that men were happier working full-time.
