Workers' insomnia

The majority stay awake worrying about the working week.

A poll by online recruiter Monster found the majority of workers have trouble sleeping on Sunday nights because of worries about the working week. Figures from the study found 84% of respondents sometimes stay awake, with 53% having trouble every Sunday.

Workers in America are the only ones who suffer from the problem more than those in the UK, with 58% of respondents losing sleep over work. Denmark and Norway appear to be most content, with only 31% of employees having trouble sleeping because of work.

“A consistent lack of sleep not only impedes a worker’s ability to think clearly and decisively, it can create a vicious circle, leading to more stress on the job and creating additional sleep problems,” said Julian Acquari, managing director at Monster UK.
