WANTED, which provides insight and analysis into hiring demand, has calculated the gap between local demand for workers and the supply of workers in that area. It bases the findings on information summarised from job board ads for each occupation and compares it to the number of employees in each occupation and city, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Recruiters subscribe to the service to gain more insight into hiring demands. Bruce Murray, chief executive of WANTED Technologies, told Recruiter that while it didn’t operate a service for the UK, it was “technically feasible” to do so and some of global agencies already use its data.
“The number of job ads is a good barometer of the economy. A lot of recruiters want to know when is it going to get any better? If you can spot the turning point, then you can be ready for it,” he said. “Some occupations will start to take off before others and you can pinpoint these.”
