The collapse of Veritas IT is continuing to cause reverberations in the sector.

Contractors have expressed their concerns about whether the sale of ongoing customer contracts to ESS Technology (see www.recruiter.co.uk, 19 October) will help them recover the money owed to them by Veritas IT.

A letter sent to contractors by U Recruitment - which calls itself "a brand of ESS Technology" - that appeared on a contractoruk.com's bulletin board stated:

"The first and most important task for us is to gain an accurate picture of your current situation and ensure that prompt payment is made."

However, the letter continued, this only applied to "unsubmitted" timeseets - not those already billed to the end client.

This left one contractor distinctly unimpressed: "I really don't know what to do, and the longer it goes on the more money you lose because the invoices just stack up with no option to get them paid."

U Recruitment declined to make comment at the time of going to press.
