Nine out of ten police officers want the right to strike, according to the Police Federation.
A survey of 140,000 officers found that 86% backed a proposal for a change in the law.
The vote follows Home Secretary Jacqui Smith’s offer of a staggered pay rise of 2.5%, effectively a 1.9% increase.
