Travelodge finds 10% of employees have taken sick leave after a sleepless night
Stress and long working hours are causing sleepless nights, often leading to staff taking time off sick, according to a poll by Travelodge.
A survey of 1,700 adults has revealed that only 3% manage the recommended eight hours of sleep a night.
Almost one in 10 of those said they had taken a day off work after a bad night's sleep.
One in three said it took them two days to recover after a sleepless night, while almost half complained they felt less confident if they were tired.
Many workers said their productivity levels were affected if they only had a few hours sleep.
The report said people were spending billions of pounds on "quick fixes" such as vitamins, energy drinks and herbal remedies to refresh themselves.
