Modern forensic expertise can determine if a person has cheated on an online test based on right-or-wrong answers, says the director of design and innovation at psychometric test company SHL.
As one example, Eugene Burke says forensic psychometrics can reveal the speed at which a person took a test. If a person took a test especially quickly and scored high marks, it might suggest cheating.
Burke says people who cheat on online tests use one of three methods: they get someone else to take the test in their place; they collaborate with another person; they use test piracy.
SHL is combatting test piracy through 'web patrols' of particular sites. "We've identified a number of web sites we're monitoring - forums and chatrooms where people would swap information," Burke says.
