The average salary for a job advertised in the UK in the last six months was £31,290 a year, according to the first Monthly Salary Index published by jobs website AllTheTopBananas.com.

The research found that outside of London, Scotland is the region with the highest average salary at £29,036. And Gwynedd has the highest average salary for a county, at £35,071.

It found that the East Midlands had the lowest average advertised salary of all the regions, at £24,940.
