Tony Roy is the new UK managing director for careerbuilder.co.uk.

Speaking exclusively to Recruiter, Roy, an eight- year veteran of careerbuilder.com, said his goal is to offer "best in class customer service".

"I'm here to take careerbuilder.co.uk to the next level. I can't understate how important it is to be the leader in customer service in any business," he said.

A key aspect of advancing the job board's status will be to invest in further staff training and development. "We're training our people to be consultants rather than vendors," Roy said.

Careerbuilder.co.uk powers the career centres of more than 160-plus UK websites and has strategic alliances with UK web portals such as AOL UK, Excite, Lycos, MSN, Tiscali and Virgin Media.

He said that the strategy for careerbuilder.co.uk will focus on national reach first, then on 'my village' as in more local geographic areas, individual sectors and then on diversity.

Previously the area vice president for the western US, Roy succeeds Dave Smith in the top careerbuilder.co.uk job. Smith oversaw the job board's initial stand-alone presence in the UK.

A company spokesman said that Smith had been assigned to the UK to handle a specific project, which had now come to an end.

CareerBuilder has not released any financial figures for its UK operations.
