Recruitment Lobbying
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) said European powers are starting to understand the implications of the proposed Agency Workers Directive in the UK.
The REC travelled to Brussels this week to speak to key players within the European Commission and European Parliament about the directive.
The REC also highlighted the industry’s concerns that it could have a detrimental effect on the temporary employment market in the UK.
Tom Hadley (pictured), the REC’s director of external relations, says: “It was very encouraging to see that there is now a greater understanding of the UK temp model and recognition for the important role that agency work plays within a vibrant and modern labour market.”
Commissioners confirmed “it was not their intention to bring about any new legislation that would damage job creation in the UK.”
Further discussions on the EU Agency Workers Directive are taking place this week in Brussels and will be taken forward by government ministers at the Employment Council on 5 December.
