Ofcom ‘slap on wrist’ over 0870 recruitment number
Telephone industry regulator Ofcom has been forced to give itself a public slap on the wrist after asking applicants for a senior job within the organisation to dial a premium-rate number, costing about 8p per minute.
Ofcom, which has been at the forefront of efforts to ban expensive tariffs, was forced to issue a rebuke to itself after the slip-up.
Headhunter firm Drax placed the advert, which was featured in several newspapers and industry journals.
Ofcom has pledged to include a geographic telephone number in all its future recruitment advertising.
