Recruitment at heart of RBS return to standalone strength, says bank’s director of group resourcing

The Royal Bank of Scotland’s return to standalone strength will be “largely driven by our ability to acquire and retain really good quality people”, the bank’s director of group resourcing has told Recruiter in an exclusive interview.

In a profile interview in Recruiter’s 17 February issue, Susan Bor goes on to say, that “at this juncture, how we deal with candidates, how we get them across the line, has never been more critical”.

Bor’s comments come at the same time as reports in The Daily Telegraph (15 February) that two of Royal Bank of Scotland’s (RBS) senior staff have quit, sparking fears the state-controlled bank could suffer a talent exodus as a result of the bonus crackdown.

In the interview with Recruiter, Bor said that when it comes to attracting talent, “for the most part people are not in this game for the money”. However, she echoed RBS chief executive Stephen Hester in saying the unless RBS is competitive, particularly on the investment banking side, RBS could lose out to its competitors. Bor said: “We will just have to wait and see what happens over the next six to nine months.”
