Recruiters turned developers launch new app

Those iPhone users who don’t have Twitter accounts can make use of the Tweetjobs service via a free app, which also takes advantage of the phone’s location awareness functionality such as GPS or GPRS. It has been developed by Nik Burns, a former recruiter who developed an app to help recruiters manage candidates and clients last year.

The new app is sector/industry- and location-specific and IT will be the first sector available from the Apple AppStore. So an IT contractor who arrives in Coventry, for instance, can download the app and then receive all the IT jobs in that area. “Should a job be of interest the user can respond via email from within the app,” explained Burns. “Users with Twitter accounts can easily ’follow’ accounts of interest and have the latest jobs show up in the Twitter stream.” Jobs received don’t have to be location-specific and the jobseeker can download more than one sector app.

Tweetjobs was launched last autumn by Richard Sutcliffe - a former recruiter, like Burns. The service helps to manage the jobseeking
process on Twitter for candidates and recruiters. It manages Twitter channels for clients and proactively builds targeted followers for their accounts.

Sutcliffe said Tweetjobs aims to extend coverage into new areas whether it be social media or the mobile environment. “If something is out there to make the process easier and faster then we will bring it to market,” he said. “Recruitment is changing and it’s about getting the right jobs to the right candidates. Mobile recruitment is already a reality and is reshaping the
recruitment landscape.”
