REC lobbies early AWD adoption MPs

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation has written to 60 MPs, who are calling for early implementation of the Agency Workers Directive.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation has written to 60 MPs, who are calling for early implementation of the Agency Workers Directive.

The 60 Labour MPs (listed below) signed an Early Day Motion in parliament calling for the government to “commence the measures before the end of this parliament”.

The government recently agreed that implementation would be delayed until October 2011.

In the letter to the MPs, Kevin Green, chief executive of the REC, outlines the trade body’s position: that early implementation would be bad for jobs, especially in a recession; and that time is needed to consider the practical implementation of the measures.

Tom Hadley, external relations director at the REC, adds: “What is crucial is that the industry continues to engage in a constructive and pragmatic way with government as well as with those MPS who are opposed to some of our recommendations.”
