Two codes of practice - one for IT recruitment agencies and the other for contractors - could be a reality by January 2007, it has been revealed.

The codes, which is being drawn up by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation in partnership with the Professional Contractors Group (PCG), are a response to requests from REC members for a defined code of practice for both contractors and agencies. REC members were updated as to the progress of the code at the IT sector group annual conference last month.

John Kell, policy officer at the PCG, told Recruiter: "This is something very positive for contractors and agencies. It will be good for both sides to have accreditation and something they can relate to."

Kell said that areas covered by the agencies' code would include, for example, ensuring contractors turn up to placements; contractors, in turn, have asked for feedback on interviews. A consultation period to draw up definitive content of each of the codes is ongoing, but is expected to end over the next few weeks.
