REC award
There are just a few days now remaining for recruiters throughout the UK to nominate their star temporary workers for the Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s (REC) One in a Million Award.
The REC is expecting a bumper number of entries for the award which is given to the UK’s top temporary worker who will be chosen from 15 different categories.
Now in its eighth year, the 2008 One in the Million Award is the highlight of National Temporary Workers Week, the REC’s flagship event which runs from 2 to 6 June and celebrates the enormous contribution the UK’s 1.4 million legion of temporary, contract and interim staff make to the UK economy.
This year’s National Temporary Workers Week has had an added dimension this year due to pressures on the status of temporary workers from both the trade unions which wants to introduce more national legislation which could increase bureaucracy for employers and agencies and a European Directive on agency work.
Tom Hadley, the REC’s Director of External Relations, explained: "There has never been a more important time to celebrate the role of temporary, contract and interim staff. The ongoing trade unions’ campaigns for more regulations on the industry have inevitably included an extremely negative portrayal of agency workers in general."
Anita Holbrow, the REC’s Director of Marketing said: "We have so far received a huge number of entries, but would like to remind those who have so far not forwarded their nominations that they only have a couple of weeks left to submit their star temps for the award.
"In turn, we at the REC are looking forward to hearing once again some remarkable stories and being inspired by their dedication and devotion to their work."
Closing date for entries is Monday March 31st.
