Radio industry executives are to converge upon Salford for Move on Up at the Radio Festival, an event aimed at addressing under-representation of black and minority ethnic workers in the radio industry by setting up one-to-one meetings with key industry executives.
The event has been organised by union BECTU in partnership with the BBC and the industry and has been put together by the Radio Industry Diversity Group. Move on Up will take place on 20 October at The Lowry, Salford Quays and will include a number of afternoon workshops, allowing BME professionals to hear about upcoming opportunities next year, when large parts of the BBC relocate to Salford.
Executives and radio presenters at the event include Radio 1 presenter Trevor Nelson, the BBC’s director of Audio & Music, Tim Davie, as well as 22 other regional and national radio BBC executives.
Representatives from commercial radio stations GMG Radio, whose stable includes Smooth Radio, Real Radio and Rock Radio from national and regional radio stations, and Travis Baxter, consultant and former managing director of Bauer, whose stations include Kiss and Magic 105.4, will also be at the event. The independent production sector will be represented by companies including All Out Productions, Made in Manchester, Unique and Somethin’ Else.
BME workers must send in their applications, with their CVs, by 15 September. For further information contact Teresa Debrou at BECTU’s head office 020 7346 0900 or email [email protected].
