Child poverty is due to gender pay gap, according to new research

Child poverty has been linked to the gender pay gap, according to women’s rights campaigners the Fawcett Society.

The research, has revealed that two out of five poor children have a single mother. A third of these children have a mother that is on little or no income.

Single mothers are twice as likely to live in poverty. The problem is compounded by the fact that 30,000 women lose their jobs through pregnancy.

The Fawcett Society is currently lobbying for a ban on the dimissal of pregnant workers.
